FOUR Southend United fans enjoyed a pre-season surprise after having the Shrimpers’ new kit delivered to their door by two of the players.

Midfielders Will Atkinson and Ryan Leonard played postmen for the day to hand over the kits to both sets of fans who lived in Leigh on Sea.

And one of the fans, Beth Close, was delighted to see the players on her door-step.

“It was a really nice surprise,” said Beth.

“I certainly wasn’t expecting to see Will and Ryan at my front door today “I’m really looking forward to the new season, and I’m sure it will be a good one for Southend.”

Leonard and Atkinson visited Beth and Andrew Close having previously been to see Scott and Dean Williams.

The supporters were picked out at random after pre-ordering the new kit.

And Leonard was only too pleased to play his part.

“It was great to be able to pay a visit to some of our fans ahead of the new season,” said the 22-year-old.

“Their support since I’ve been here has been brilliant so it’s just a way of giving a little bit back to them.

“Hopefully Dean, Scott, Beth and Andy will all be there for our first home league game of the season against Stevenage next Saturday to help create the wall of colour that’s being talked about.”

Blues’ new home kit can now be purchased at the club shop at Roots Hall while the away one can be pre-ordered there or online at www.southendunited.co.uk
