ACCRINGTON Stanley boss James Beattie felt Southend United did not look like scoring from open play against his side at the Crown Ground on Saturday.
Blues bagged all three points, thanks to a late Lee Barnard penalty.
But Beattie insisted his defence were not troubled too often by the Shrimpers.
“I thought we withstood everything Southend threw at us, we stood up to them well and they didn’t look like scoring from open play,” said Beattie.
“There was nothing in the game and we created some decent chances in the first half but the game was decided by the penalties that were given in the end.”
Beattie was not willing to discuss the penalties given until he had seen the incidents again on television.
And he instead opted to criticise the performances of his attacking players.
“Unfortunately a couple of our flair players weren’t at the races but while I’m disappointed we lost the game I’m not disappointed with our performance.”
