SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown had made seven changes to his starting line-up for tonight’s Capital One Cup clash against Walsall at Roots Hall.

Goalkeeper Paul Smith comes in for Daniel Bentley between the sticks while Adam Thompson and Mads Ibenfeldt have both been handed starts in defence at the expense of John White and Cian Bolger.

The Shrimpers are expected to line-up in a 5-3-2 formation and that will see summer signing David Worrall at right wing-back.

In the centre of the park, Will Atkinson and Jack Payne have both been handed recalls with Conor Clifford and Kevan Hurst dropping to the bench.

The final change comes in attack with Lee Barnard replacing Barry Corr.

Southend United: Smith, Worrall, Ibenfeldt, Thompson, Prosser, Coker, Atkinson, Leonard, Payne, Coulthirst, Barnard

Subs: Bentley, White, Corr, Weston, Hurst, Bolger & Clifford
