DIVISION TWO:

BILLERICAY are looking to upset the odds once again when they take on Belhus tomorrow.

A late surge has seen Stewart Rutland’s side pick up three wins on the bounce, including an impressive win at second placed Orsett six days ago.

Now they host Belhus, and they are aiming for a different result than last time, when they crumbled to 100 all out at the Thurrock side.

Skipper Stewart Rutland says his team are fully fit and in a good position to end the season strongly.

“We are full of confidence after last weekend’s win and with the end of the season drawing closer picking up consecutive wins can do a lot of good,” said Rutland. “We know that Belhus will provide us with a good test but we are not afraid of anyone in this league and we need to go out and have faith in our ability.”

Billericay welcome back Stuart and Gary Hynes for the match and Rutland said if his team stays fit then he believes they will pick up a lot of points in the closing weeks.

“We play Fives & Heronians, Leigh-on-Sea and Gidea Park & Romford in our final three matches and these are all games we can win. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves though so first up we must do well against Belhus.”

Another match with a lot riding on it, at both ends of the table, is Leigh-on-Sea’s game against Horndon-on-the-Hill.

Leigh are in a rich vein of form at the moment and have won seven of their past nine matches, beating runaway leaders Hornchurch in the process.

But Horndon are also enjoying their most successful period of the year. They have won four from the last five, and last weekend’s success over rivals Westcliff-on-Sea saw them climb out of the relegation zone for the first time in two months.

However, the league is so close that the 45 points separating Leigh (in fourth) and Horndon (in eighth) could change in a matter of weeks.

Leigh skipper Dean Waller said his side needed to win if they were to maintain a promotion push, and he remains hopeful that Orsett and Belhus (in second and third respectively) slip up.

Westcliff are already resigned to a swift return to division three unless other results go their way and captain Graham Cox will be looking for a response against Fives & Heronians, as they look to win their first match in 15 this season.
