DANIEL Bentley wants Southend United to match their start from last season when they host AFC Wimbledon at Roots Hall tonight.

The Shrimpers won their opening three league matches last time around.

And the highly-rated goalkeeper is now demanding Blues kick off the latest campaign with another trio of victories before their turn attentions to extending the winning run even further.

“It has been the perfect start for us, picking up six points from six and keeping two clean sheets,” said Bentley.

“That’s the most important thing for me as a goalkeeper but now we want to make it three in a row and do what we did last season.

“But we’re not just looking to match it, we’re wanting to better it.

“Last season the three wins were followed by five or six games without a win so we obviously don’t want that happening again.

“However, right now we’re just thinking about the AFC Wimbledon game.”

The Dons visit Roots Hall after also making an encouraging start to the season.

Neal Ardley’s team won 1-0 at Luton Town at the weekend.

And Bentley, who is the only League Two goalkeeper yet to be beaten this term, is expecting a difficult evening between the sticks.

“We know the sort of threat AFC Wimbledon will pose because they are a good team who beat us at home last season,” said the Basildon born 21-year-old.

“Matt Tubbs has scored in every game so far this season for them and links up well with Adebayo Akinfenwa.

“But I’m determined to end his run on Tuesday night and pick up another clean sheet.”

Victory would extend the Shrimpers’ unbeaten start to the League Two season.

And Bentley is confident Phil Brown’s side will continue to improve.

“I thought we showed a bit more quality against Stevenage on Saturday and I’m sure we’ll keep getting better,” said Bentley.

“All over the pitch we’re full of confidence at the moment.

“We got a couple of great goals against Stevenage and got the clean sheet too.

“If we can up the performance levels again against AFC Wimbledon then I’m sure we can make it three from three, hopefully in terms of both wins and clean sheets.”
