JOHN White felt Southend United created enough chances against AFC Wimbledon to have won three matches on Tuesday night.

The Shrimpers were beaten 1-0 by the Dons at Roots Hall.

But captain White insisted Blues should have taken something from the game.

“It’s frustrating because as the manager put it, we probably create enough chances to win two or three games but unfortunately it wasn’t our night,” said the right-back.

“Wimbledon didn’t have too many chances until we had to open up and go for it after they scored but we had plenty, especially in the first half.

“We took those early chances against Stevenage but we couldn’t quite do it against Wimbledon and once they got that goal, they did whatever they could to frustrate and counter.”

However, the manner of the display meant White was not too downbeat at the final whistle.

And the defender is now keen to bounce back when the Shrimpers make the long trip to Carlisle United this weekend.

“We're disappointed to have lost our unbeaten start but we can't be too down at this stage of the season,” said White.

"We'll have a recovery session today and we'll immediately start looking ahead to Carlisle.

"It's a long trip so we'll need to make sure we prepare the right way.

“But we've been good away from home in the last year so we'll be looking to carry it on."

Carlisle have picked up just one point from their opening three games.

And White insists the Blues will head to Brunton Park full of confidence.

“The performance was there against Wimbledon and that’s a big positive for us,” said the defender.

“The lads put in plenty of effort and over the course of the game we created enough chances but we just couldn’t’ take them.

“If we put in more displays like that over the course of the season, we’ll win more games than we lose.

“We’re obviously disappointed to lose the game, but there are positives to take and we’ll pick ourselves back up again quickly.”
