SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin joked manager Phil Brown would not be forgiven for any more defeats after being drenched by him in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Brown nominated the chairman, chief executive Steve Kavanagh and TalkSport presenter Alan Brazil when being covered in ice cold water himself last week.

And Martin accepted the challenge on the edge of the Roots Hall pitch this morning.

“I would like to thank Phil for nominating me but he won’t be forgiven for any more defeats now,” laughed the chairman.

Martin also went on to nominate Colchester United chairman Robbie Cowling, Gillingham owner Paul Scally and former Leyton Orient chief Barry Hearn.

The ALS Ice Bucket challenge has now raised close to £50 million from 1.7 million people.

Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham are among the celebrities to have also poured a bucket of freezing cold water over themselves.

Anyone accepting the challenge is urged to share a video of the event and nominate someone else to do the same, making a donation to any charity supporting Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

ALS is the American name for the condition usually referred to as motor neurone disease in England.
