BOYCE HILL: The club’s annual cadet championship featured a number of competitions all played on the same day.

Centre piece was the 36 hole cadet championship, for the Howe Cup which turned out to be a very close affair. In the morning David Briffault led the field with a gross 74. But things turned round in the afternoon and Patrick Arundel added a 73 to his morning score of 77 to take the lead on 150. However, Tommy Lodge needed a three on the 36th hole to score an afternoon round of 71 and a total also of 150. The better afternoon round meant he took the championship on countback from Patrick. Third and fourth places went to Adam Denyer and morning leader David Briffaut, both only one shot behind on 151.

The Cadet Cup was played concurrently with the Championship is a handicap competition. Once again there was a very close finish. Leaders after the morning round were 22 handicap Henry Taylor and 20 handicap Joseph Whiting with net 64s, just one shot better than 23 handicap Alex Hubble. In the afternoon, Hubble carded a net 68 for a total of 133 taking the cup by one shot from Joseph Whiting with 134. The morning leader, Henry Taylor had to settle for third with 135.

In the girls championship it was a repeat of 2013, with Bethany Haste taking first place and the Championship Cup. The Girls Handicap Cup was won by talented 21 handicapper Molly Lynch.

The Intermediate Boys Cup was won by Mally Philips. The Novice Cup for Boys winner was Elliot Cox. In what was a really great day, prizes and trophies were also awarded for the longest drive, a chipping contest and a putting cup.
