EIGHT-handicapper Graham Palmer produced an excellent display to win Rochford Hundred's Fraser Festival Cup.

Palmer posted 43 points to snatch the prize by a solitary point.

He opened with a steady front nine as he hit the turn with four pars and a couple of birdies. The birdie at nine really fired Palmer’s round into action as he came home without dropping another shot, including a fine birdie at the tough par three 15th.

The superb back nine enabled him to pip one handicapper Paul Daly who had posted a quite brilliant 42 points the previous day.

Daly could count himself unfortunate not to lift the prize as he produced a flawless round with 13 pars and five birdies. However, great credit must go to Palmer who didn’t let the score put him off as his win saw him cut to a six handicap.

On Sunday, the Sunday medal was held with the ever consistent Mark Walden again winning the top division with 72-4=68. Walden shot a couple of birdies with 11 pars in all round solid display. Andy Frye (73-3=70) secured second on countback from Simon Cassidy (75-5=70).

The second tier saw a dominant display as six handicapper David Beale shot an excellent 72-6=66 to see him now playing in the top category. Beale’s round came alight on his front nine as an early birdie was complimented with a brilliant eagle three on the sixth hole.

Bob Lough (80-12=68) finished two shots away in second. The third section went to Malcolm Leonard (88-22=66) from Tony Mutimer as both saw their respective handicaps cut.

The midweek Scott Spencer saw a handful of players get handicap reductions with Johnathan Jude securing the win with 41 points from Humphrey Squier and the in-form Tony Mutimer as both posted 39 points.

The Youth Shield side carried on their fine run of recent times as they comprehensively beat Thorndon Park 5-0 in their semi final played at Warley.

Meanwhile, in the ladies section, Jo Rumsey lifted the Southern Seniors summer meet, held at Wentworth’s Edinburgh course with 40 points.
