SOUTHEND United striker Myles Weston is out to show Oxford United what they missed out on when they visit Roots Hall tomorrow.

Weston came close to joining the U’s during the summer before opting to team up with Blues.

And he is now desperate to get back among the goals against them this weekend as the Shrimpers attempt to end their four match winless streak.

“I came very, very close to being an Oxford player and I was supposed to sign for them but I decided to join Southend instead.

“It felt like it was the right club and it was the right decision for me at the time.

“I’m happy to be here and I’m confident everything will soon start to click in to place for us.”

Blues head in to the game sitting 14th in the early League Two standings, having collected seven points from their first five outings.

A whole host of missed opportunities has stopped the Shrimpers securing more success.

But Weston, who has scored once in seven appearances so far, is not letting it play on mind.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself so I have a different way of thinking about it,” said the 26-year-old.

“I just want to keep on creating the chances, getting in the positions and trying to score.

“I’ve scored one goal and I’ve had other chances.

“More will come and we just need to all keep getting in the right areas.

“If we do then everything will be fine.”

Southend will also be confident of coming out on top having been beaten in just one of their last 12 games against Oxford.

The U’s have also made a slow start to the season and have yet to win in the league.

Michael Appleton’s team are currently second from bottom in the table.

But Weston is adamant they will be tough opponents.

“We can’t take anything for granted and it’s a big game for both teams,” said the striker.

“We’re playing for three points and we need them.

“We haven’t won for a couple of games now and this is a great chance for us to get back on track.”
