ROCHFORD HUNDRED: Young talent Taylor Carter stamped his authority on the field in the club’s RHGC day, sweeping the board in both prize sextions with a record 36-hole total.

Scratch handicapper Carter scored a total of 133 as he posted rounds of 66 and 67 in a brilliant display.

Carter opened his quest with three birdies and an eagle in his first five holes to hit the turn at five under par, which he settled for at halfway with an even par back nine to give him a three shot cushion from Bradley Bawden and Spencer Wells.

The afternoon began with Arthur Leonard launching a spectacular fight back as he went to the turn in a breathtaking 29 strokes as he threatened Carter’s lead.

Back-to-back birdies gave Carter some breathing space which he cemented with two further birdies coming home resulting in him lifting both gross & handicap sections by six shots.

Carter saw his handicap lowered to +1 with Leonard’s excellent afternoon play giving him a new handicap of +2 as he finished runner up. Mark Lonergan and Stephen Fearn also produced notable displays as they both posted net three under 139’s to fill the places.

The other major recently held at the club was the John Lockhart Trophy & Bowl.

Five handicapper Ian Hookway (72-5=67) deservedly lifted both gross and handicap prizes with a fine round of golf. Hookway opened up his round with a steady run of pars, and then showed great resolve as both times he bogeyed a hole he fired straight back with a birdie to hit the turn at level par.

Just one single blemish on his homeward nine never gave the rest of the field a chance as he backed that up with eight pars to put clear daylight back to Paul Daly (74-1=73) in the scratch section and David Kirk (76-6=70) in the handicap section.

The midweek Scott Spencer saw Darrell Williams also overwhelm the field with 44 points as he saw two shots shaved off his handicap to 17.

The Ladies held their inaugural Ivor Finer trophy with Kay Campbell-Carr posting 37 points to deny Sue Proctor on 36 and Lyn Ivison on 35.
