FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round

Hertford Town 1-4 Canvey Island

CANVEY Island romped to a comfortable win at Hertford Town, despite an early red card for skipper Jay Curran.

The Spartan South Midlands League Premier League side had knocked out Great Wakering Rovers in the last round but couldn’t match the Gulls, even after the first half dismissal of Jay Curran.

Leigh Rose was proving to be a thorn in Canvey’s side with the rangy striker drilling wide early on before Tommy Wade was denied by John Easterford’s intervention.

Curran was then dismissed after raised his hands to an opponents but Canvey still struck first. Tambeson Eyong was fouled in the box and, even though John Sands kick was saved, Kevin Dobinson struck home the rebound.

Hertford equalized after the break after a defensive error from Ashley Dumas but Danny Heale’s side re-took the lead five minutes later – John Sands netting off the inside of the post.

The striker added his second to make it 3-1 with 15 minutes to go, beating two men before finishing and Dobinson scored his second goal of the match, a superb chip, to finish the scoring.
