AFTER going more than a year without a win, Canvey Island made it two Essex One victories in a row with a 36-0 triumph against Pegasus Palmierans Pegasus's small pitch restricted Canvey's lively backs but did not stop them coming out on top.

Canvey's forwards, with flanker Billy Slater and second row John Mailes leading the way, gave their backs a constant supply of ball.

And, with 12 minutes on the clock, the Islanders went ahead with a penalty from the boot of fly half Jon Edwards.

That set the pattern for the first half as Canvey's constant pressure forced their hosts to concede penalties.

Edwards kicked four out of five over the posts and also converted a try from full back Charlie Downs who joined the back line at pace to touch down.

Canvey turned round 19-0 in front and continued to put pressure on Pegasus but were thwarted by some resolute tackling from their backs.

However, another penalty from Edwards soon increased Canvey's lead before new signing, winger Drew Bonham-Cox touched down for a try.

Man of the match Downs then bagged his second of the afternoon which Edwards converted to continue Canvey's bright start to the season.
