DANNY Cowley says Concord Rangers will relish being the underdogs after being drawn against Colchester United in the Essex Senior Cup.

The Beachboys manager will watch his side take on the League One team in the third round of the competition and have been given the toughest task as they try to emulate their success in the tournament last season.

They upset the odds to beat Braintree Town in last year’s final, and will play the U’s at the Aspect Arena in what was the first tie drawn out of the hat.

“It’s a really difficult draw,” said Cowley. “We always take the cup draws seriously though so will give it everything we’ve got and try and progress.

“We were really proud to win it last year and to go on another good run this year would give us added confidence as we continue in the Conference South. It brings us together as a group.”

Meanwhile Southend United were drawn at home to high-flying Ryman North side Harlow Town and East Thurrock United will travel to Billericay Town, meaning Steve Sheehan will face off against his former club.

Bowers & Pitsea will travel to Burnham Ramblers with manager Rob Small and a number of his players set for reunions with their former side.

Canvey Island will travel to Witham Town in an all-Ryman Premier clash, Great Wakering Rovers will host Romford in an all-Ryman One North encounter.

Hullbridge Sports were also handed a home draw – with Aveley the visitors to Lower Road.

All the matches will be played on or before Saturday, November 1.
