CONCORD Rangers goalkeeper Jamie Butler has been selected to represent his country – after England C named him in their latest squad.

The 22-year-old Beachboys stopper impressed manager Paul Fairclough on a two-day national training camp at St George’s Park recently and will now be part of the 16-man squad to fly to Turkey next month for the crucial International Challenge Trophy match.

Concord boss Danny Cowley said he is extremely proud of Butler after his first international call-up and says he has got the recognition he deserves for his performances between the sticks.

“Jamie has been tremendous for us,” said Cowley. “We were pleased when he was selected for the training squad and we are really proud he has been selected in the 16-man squad.

“It is a great credit to him and the work he has put in this season. He is a great professional and it goes to prove that you get out what you put in.

“It is nice to see people like Jamie reaping these rewards.”

Butler has been a ever-present for Concord Rangers since he joined from Met Police at the start of last season and has been watched on a number of occasions by England C scouts.

He will now link up with the rest of the squad – which is comprised of the best non-league players in the country – for the encounter with Turkey on Tuesday, October 14.

He will be between the sticks for tonight’s FA Cup replay against Wealdstone.
