EAST Thurrock United will record their best league start for four years – if they beat Tonbridge Angels tonight.

John Coventry’s team sit 15th after 12 games, but have not won in their last three league outings, something Coventry is keen to change against Tonbridge.

Angels have taken only three points on the road this term, having been beaten on four of their five away trips since they were relegated from the Conference South last year.

And Coventry says he wants his side to be more consistent, having recorded an impressive 4-3 win at Met Police in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“We are inconsistent,” said the Rocks boss. “We need to string some results together but a win tomorrow would mean our best start for four years so we aren’t doing too badly.

“I am looking at the positives and it is a good mood in the camp at the moment. The coach on the way back from Met Police was in good voice and I want that to continue.”

Rocks have struggled for goals this term, having found the net only nine times in 12 league games, although they have the 5th best defensive record in the division.

Tonbridge have been scoring freely this term (20 in 12 games) but have also conceded more with Coventry expecting an even match.

“We know they will pose a tough test,” said Coventry. “But all games are and I look forward to a competitive match.”

Great Wakering Rovers are also in action tonight, when they take on Waltham Abbey at Burroughs Park.

Wakering enjoyed a weekend off to prepare for the clash and are in for a tough test against a side who qualified for the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup at the weekend.

The visitors sit midtable after an indifferent start to the season, while Wakering will be looking for their first home win of term, as they attempt to drag themselves out of the relegation mire.
