SOUTHEND United will be joined by three of our non-league clubs in tonight’s FA Cup First Round draw after a fantastic weekend of action.

Concord Rangers made history as they qualified for the First Round for the first time ever – and their island rivals Canvey could yet join them after they took Havant & Waterlooville to a replay.

East Thurrock United had the performance of the day, though, crushing Bath City, who play a league higher than them in the Conference South, 7-1.

And afterwards Rocks manager John Coventry said he knows who he wants in tonight’s draw.

He said: “I’m a Coventry, so Coventry City would be my choice!”

Concord beat St Albans City 1-0 thanks to Joe Gardner’s superb volley and he and the rest of Danny Cowley’s men will be eagerly awaiting tonight’s draw – with the likes of Sheffield United and the Blues possible opponents.

“I’m not going to be greedy,” said the Beachboys boss. “Southend United, Coventry City, Sheffield United or Bradford City would be fine!

“I am so proud of these players.”

Canvey Island played out a goalless draw against Conference South giant Havant & Waterlooville. But Heale has backed his players to take the favourites to the wire in tomorrow night’s replay.

“We are in the hat for the first round draw and that’s all you can ask at this point,” he said. “We know what we need to do.”

The draw for the First Round of the FA Cup is live on BBC Two at 7pm tonight. Southend United are ball number 41, Concord Rangers 73, East Thurrock United 63 and Canvey Island 72.
