SOUTHEND United’s assistant manager Dave Penney has revealed either John White or Luke Prosser will line up at left-back against Hartlepool tomorrow.

The Shrimpers are without a natural left-back as Jerome Binnom-Williams serves a one match ban for accumulating five yellow cards.

But Penney believes White or Prosser will be able to deal with switching positions.

“I think it’s between Luke Prosser and John White as to who will play there,” said Penney.

“We have certain ways of dealing with it and Adam Thompson, Ryan Leonard and David Worrall can also play full-back if required.

“However, we need to get a team out there who will defend properly.”

Blues will also be without centre-back Jakub Sokolik as he too has been shown five yellow cards this season.

He is likely to be replaced by Adam Thompson while, athe other end of the field, Myles Weston is unavailable as he is currently on international duty with Antigua.

Shaq Coulthirst and Jack Payne will battle to replace him but Penney will be free to be in the dug-out alongside boss Phil Brown after being escaping with just a warning from his dismissal against Luton Town last month.

Penney was ordered from the dug-out after clashing with Hatters striker Pelly Ruddock.

However, he will not have to serve a suspension for the incident.

“There’s no punishment involved,” confirmed Penney.

“The referee made the decision to remove me to calm the situation down.

“It was just handbags really and I never stepped outside the technical area.

“I was just trying to get the ball and the easy route was to remove me.

“It took the heat out of the situation and I’ve been warned about my future conduct.”
