Bognor Regis Town 2-1 Canvey Island
From Nyewood Lane
Ryman Premier
CANVEY Island's indifferent form continued as they fell to a late defeat at Bognor Regis Town.
Jack Simmonds first goal of the club looked to have rescued a point for Danny Heale’s men but a strike from Jack Crane in the final six minutes proved to be decisive.
It was the visitors, inspired by a midweek win at Hampton & Richmond Borough, who started well.
Geoff Mitchell thought he had grabbed his first for the club after five minutes, but a linesman’s flag denied him.
Canvey goalkeeper Tim Brown was called into action soon after, stopping Ollie Pearce’s strike with a terrific save.
Pearce was again denied by Brown before the break and he made two more superb saves minutes after the restart.
But he was helpless to deny Bognor the opening goal. Pearce’s initial header was saved but the rebound fell to the striker, who hit home.
And Canvey looked to have snatched a draw when Simmonds smashed home at the far post.
However, five minutes after the equaliser, Crane’s header snuck in at the near post in what was the winning goal.
Harrison Chatting missed a superb late chance to score the winner when he broke through but Winterton was again there to preserve the home sides lead.
However, from the resultant kick, Winterton’s pass found Victor Osobu and his pass fed Chatting who had the goal at his mercy. But it was blocked superbly on the line.
Canvey Island: Brown, Bryan-Edwards, Jones, King, Barlow (Thomas), Carter, Chatting, Curran (Agyakwa), Simmons, Mitchell (Tweddell), Osobu
