SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin is offering supporters free travel and subsidised tickets for the Shrimpers’ next league game at Wycombe Wanderers.

Blues head to the table-topping Chairboys on Saturday, December 13.

And Martin wants at least 2,000 Southend fans to make the journey.

“We want to target an army of 2,000 Blues fans, young and old for the match,” said Martin.

“The initiative is to encourage as many supporters as possible to travel to what is an important match.”

The Shrimpers have triumphed in their last four league games and now sit fifth in the League Two standings, four points behind table-topping Wycombe.

Blues will be looking to close that gap with a win at Adams Park.

With that in mind, Martin will subsidise £5 from every ticket bought in advance of the game.

Tickets are on sale now with adults costing £13, those 60 and above will be charged £9, adults between 19 and 25 £7, juniors between eight and 18 £4 while children under seven can watch for free if they are accompanied by an adult.

Blues’ ticket office will be open until 7.30pm the night before the game when the offer will end and advance tickets will go off sale.

Coaches can also be booked when purchasing the tickets. They will all leave Roots Hall at 10.30am on the morning of the match.

And Shrimpers boss Phil Brown hopes the offer will attract a huge number of travelling fans.

“This is a fantastic Christmas initiative and I hope everyone connected to the club gets right behind us,” said Brown.

“Our away support is always excellent and having 2,000 supporters at Wycombe would be a huge help to the team.

“It will make a big difference and can hopefully help us secure an important result before we head in to the festive period.”

Supporters are being urged to book early.
