Billericay Town 2-2 Lewes

From New Lodge

Ryman Premier

Billericay Town were indebted to goalscoring captain Richard Halle once again as he scored an injury-time penalty to rescue a point against Lewes.

The centre-half scored his 12th goal of term to save Craig Edwards’ side from what seemed certain defeat after they had taken a first half lead.

Ricky Sappleton scored his 10th goal of the season and was then sent off late on in a decision that enraged the Billericay bench.

On a New Lodge pitch that had passed a morning pitch inspection it was the home team that started the better.

Rowan Liburd had a good early opportunity when his effort crashed back off the bar and it was the new forward partnership of Sappleton and Liburd that were causing problems and the two combined for the opening goal.

Liburd’s through ball released the burly striker and he placed his effort beyond the keeper and into the net.

That was just reward for Town but the were pegged back by the visitors.

Sam Cole made a fine overlapping run to crash home past Billy Lumley, who had been awarded November’s player of the month award before the match for some fine displays.

Lewes were getting into their stride and they took a 2-1 lead into the break after some neat football.

Tom Davis brought the ball down and sent a perfectly placed shot into the net.

Sappleton was dismissed midway through the second half for a foul on Tommy Franks and, as the game seemed to be petering out, Town were given the chance to draw level.

in the sixth minute of injury time, Dean Lovegrove committed a foul in the box and up stepped Halle to secure a point and net his fourth goal in five games.
