ROCHFORD Hundred slipped from first to fourth in the London Two North East table after suffering a surprising 12-3 defeat at Enfield Ignatians.

Hundred had gone in to the game on the back of nine wins in their last 10 games.

But they were unable to keep the good run going against their seventh placed hosts.

And Rochford’s first team manager Graham Pratt felt Enfield were worthy winners.

“Enfield deserved the victory because they were the better team and were more aggressive in the set pieces and in the loose,” said Pratt.

“They didn’t allow us to get any rhythm going and they wanted the win a great deal more than us on the day.”

Rochford initially seemed set for a successful day when Adam Ashton kicked them in to the lead with a penalty.

But Enfield hit back with a try and then also scored a converted try to extend their advantage even further.

That proved to be enough to seal the win.

And Pratt insisted Rochford would now be training hard to make sure they get back on track when they host local rivals Basildon at Magnolia Road this weekend.

“The side as a whole just seemed to lack cohesion and a sense of purpose and could be just a one off bad week but it will have to be addressed and the best place for that is on the training pitch with all players prepared to put in the hard yards,” Pratt added.

The win pushed Chelmsford back on to the top of the table while Basildon remain 10th in the standings.

South Woodham Ferrers also suffered a setback at the weekend as they were narrowly beaten 19-18 at Holt.
