BLUES striker Lee Barnard is expected to resume full training on Monday.
The 30-year-old has been out since mid-December with an ankle problem he suffered while on loan at Stevenage.
But Shrimpers boss Phil Brown believes Barnard will soon be back in action and fighting for a place in the side.
“There’s a chance Lee Barnard will be doing the warm up and some ball work with us and then be integrated fully again in training on Monday,” said Brown.
“It’s good news and I think Barney does still have a future here.
“He will be fighting for a place and playing for a new contract just like everyone else.”
