JAKE Cassidy has pledged to find his best form for Southend United, starting with tomorrow’s crunch clash at table-topping Shrewsbury Town.
The striker has failed to score in his first three games for the Shrimpers since signing on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
But he remains confident of becoming a big hit for Blues.
“I’m still finding my feet at Southend and learning how the players like to play but that will improve the more I play,” said Cassidy, 21.
“They’re learning about me too and I’ve had exactly the same happen during all of my other loan spells.
“It’s a bit difficult to integrate but it will come with games.
“Hopefully I can settle in and start to score a few goals.
“I’m confident it will come and it would be great to get the first one tomorrow because it’s a massive game.”
Fifth placed Blues, who have won their last games, are just four points behind the Shrews who have yet to lose at home in the league this season.
And Cassidy is expecting another tricky test away from home.
“Shrewsbury are on fire this year and it’s been a great response from them to getting relegated last year,” said the striker.
“I played against them last year so I know they’re a tough team to play and it’s a tough place to go.
“But I’ve won all three of the games since I’ve been here and the team has done well away from home all season so we’re all confident of getting another win.”
Cassidy will also be hoping to keep his place in attack alongside fellow loanee Joe Pigott who has already netted twice.
However, Cassidy, who finds himself under pressure from both Barry Corr and Shaq Coulthirst, believes the best is yet to come from their partnership.
“It’s been difficult so far because we’re still adjusting to each other and sometimes we’ve been making the some runs,” said the striker.
“It takes a while to get that level of understanding but that will also come with more games.
“l’ll also get fitter and stronger the more I play but getting good results is what matters the most because there is a good group of lads here and it would be great to get promotion with them.”
