WESTCLIFF face a crunch National Three London & SE clash when they host bottom of the table CS Rugby 1863 at the Gables tomorrow.

Westcliff have risen up to 10th in the standings after winning three of their last five games.

And, after a weekend off, winger Chris Dudman is keen for the team to return to action with another vital victory.

“It’s a huge game for us as it’s very tight at the bottom of the table,” said Dudman.

“We had a weekend off last week which allowed us to have some injuries looked at and to also have a bit of a rest which will stand us in good stead against Civil Service.”

CS Rugby 1863 beat Westcliff 26-24 back in October but have triumphed in just four of their 19 games this term.

Westcliff have fared slightly better, winning six times.

But, last time out, they were seen off 59-21 at high-flying London Irish Wild Geese.

And the defeat still frustrates Dudman.

“We actually started off very well against Irish,” said the winger.

“We were gaining good territory and possession for most of the first half and went into half –time only 17-16 down.

“However the second half was a different story.

“Irish picked up the intensity and we just couldn't match them.

“We were disappointed with ourselves after how well we had played in the previous 40 minutes and we will need to do better tomorrow.”

And Dudman is also prepared to continue with the kicking responsibilities if required.

“The kicking went well against Irish considering I haven’t kicked for goal since last season,” said the former Southend High School for Boys pupil.

“It isn't anything new to me but it was good to pick up where I left off and I don’t mind doing it again if I’m needed to.”
