STEVENAGE boss Graham Westley insisted he was always confident of seeing off Southend United in the closing stages on Saturday.
Stevenage made it back to back wins with a 4-2 triumph against the Shrimpers.
And Westley was not surprised to see his side run riot late on at Broadhall Way.
"Southend are a decent side and we were in the situation we were in but we know they do concede late goals and we always fancied we could affect the game late on,” said Westley.
“The attitude of the team in the last 25 minutes or so was exactly what you wanted and as an 11 they went forward with real gusto to score three good goals and win the game.”
Substitute Ben Kennedy played a prominent part in that happening.
But Westley was reluctant to heap too much praise on the 18-year-old striker.
"I think it would be rude to single out Ben Kennedy if I'm honest,” said Westley.
“Football's a team game and when a young kid comes in and does all right, I think it's rude to ignore the efforts of the team.
“But it's great a young kid has come in and done his job very well.
“He's done that despite the pitch being difficult again but people will probably go away saying what a great game and that they can't wait to get down here again which is what you want to hear.”
