BLUES boss Phil Brown is sweating on the fitness on all three of his goalkeepers.

First choice Daniel Bentley missed Saturday’s 2-0 win against Carlisle United with a groin problem while Paul Smith was not fit enough to be on the bench.

Ted Smith therefore lined up between the sticks but he suffered an impact injury in the second half.

And Brown admitted he might have to delve in to the loan market if the injuries do not clear up.

“Ted took a whack during the game and maybe we might have to get another one in,” said Brown.

“It wouldn’t be the end of the world if we have to do that if three are out injured and I think it would put a cat among the pigeons.

“We had the same happen last season in defence when John Egan and Jakub Sokolik came in. I “But if we bring someone in and he’s between the sticks at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday because all three are injured then that’s just normal management.”

All three keepers currently with Blues will be having their fitness checked.

However, Brown will not recall Bentley until he is able to kick the ball without feeling any pain.

“Unfortunately we’re still not out of the woods with Dan Bentley,” confirmed Brown.

“He was a bit reluctant to throw his hat in the ring on Saturday.

“He pulled up after the first kick last weekend and then a centre-half had to take them which I wasn’t going to put up with again as it changes the whole dynamics of the game.

“Kicking is almost 50 per cent of a keeper’s game and he couldn’t do that so it was a no brainer to put Ted back in.”

But Brown was not able to select a substitute goalkeeper on the bench.

“Paul Smith had been on the treatment table all week,” said Brown.

“He’s had a calf problem he went for a scan on and he’s also been complaining of back pain so he wasn’t fit enough to be on the bench.”
