ROCHFORD Hockey Club sealed promotion with a fantastic 7-0 win against Brentwood.

The Eastern division eight south east table-toppers can now not be caught by third-placed Witham with three games of the season remaining.

They will now be hoping to go up as champions and in the form they are in, few would bet against it.

They thrashed Brentwood V 7-0 on Saturday to maintain their six-point lead over second-placed East London VI.

Rochford opened the scoring when James Morgan poked the ball home after some fine build up play by Sam Lowe and Rhys Durban.

They then doubled their lead shortly afterwards when the quick-thinking Matt Harwood-White took a quick free hit, drove the ball in to the D and finished low into the bottom corner.

The home side continued to dominate and create chances which limited Brentwood to only a few opportunities to attack.

The third goal came from a direct shot by skipper Andy Knight at a short corner, which saw his shot deflect off the on rushing defender to loop over the keeper’s head.

After the break, Luke Smith grabbed the first of his three goals after some great work from player-of-the-match Danny Palmer who drove into the D and pulled the ball back to Smith who slotted it home.

Moments later, Knight got his second of the game, again from a short corner routine, this time the ball was played from Chris Williams who slipped it to Morgan who in turn passed it to the waiting Knight to finish off a slick move.

Smith then grabbed his second after defender Dave Dove went on a mazy run up the pitch, he sprinted up the length of the pitch before playing a great ball to Smith who drilled the ball home.

After that, the game was delayed while one of the Brentwood players received treatment after being struck in the face by the ball at close range.

The match restarted with only 10 minutes remaining but there was still enough time for Smith to complete his hat-trick which came after another a well taken goal courtesy of some neat build up play.
