THE future is looking bright for Olivia King after a fine set of results in Mini Orange tournaments.

The nine-year-old Rochford LTC member played in four events over the half-term holiday.

She won two tournaments and was second and fourth in two others.

And club coach Chris Nelson thinks knocking up with older players has helped her.

“She struggles to get regular girls-only matches, not that it has bothered her,” said Nelson.

“We are a small club and we lost all of her club mates who were enticed away by larger clubs and academies.

“But Olivia stayed and with the help of a few of the club players, who are hitting partners for her, she’s developed leaps and bounds over the winter period.

“She is about to move up to another age category but has already been competing in it and been getting good results.”

Olivia has been at the club for five years and has progressed through the mini tennis ranks.

The Holt Farm pupil was ranked number one in Essex at her age group and is firmly on course to repeat the feat for the current winter season.

Her half-term successes saw her win a grade four event at David Lloyd Basildon and finish second at another in Middlesex.

Olivia also won a grade five tournament at David Lloyd Ipswich and was the highest placed girl in a mixed tournament where she finished fourth overall.
