SEEVIC’S director of rugby Danny Cleare felt his young side were overawed in their 13-5 defeat to Churcher’s College at Twickenham this afternoon.

Seevic made a number of basic errors to enable their well drilled Hampshire opponents to come out on top in the final of the under 18 vase.

And Cleare insisted that could have been down to failing to deal with the size of the occasion.

“I think the size of the crowd and being at Twickenham got to the boys massively if I’m honest,” said Cleare.

“You could see they were nervous and tentative in their play and they certainly weren’t executing what we had set out for them to do in our game plan.

“We had too many handling errors in the second half as well and I think that was from just trying to force it too much.

“We gave ourselves too much to do and when you’re chasing the game like that you try to do things that aren’t really on.”

Seevic found themselves 13-0 down at the start of the second half before getting themselves back in to the game with a try from winger Amos Filson.

But a series of ill timed knock-ons meant the Thundersley sixth form college were unable to add to their points tally.

And that ensured the afternoon ended in defeat for Cleare’s side, who showed their anguish at the end of the game.

“It meant a lot to the boys out there,” said Cleare.

“When you give up as much as they have you want to win it but maybe they wanted to win it too much and put too much pressure on themselves.

“That maybe contributed to them not playing the way they can.”

However, Cleare was also keen to stress how Seevic should take great heart from reaching the final of the nationwide competition.

“This journey has was a successful one and one we will never forget,” said Cleare.

“The boys have been outstanding and should be proud of themselves.

“I’m certainly proud of them but unfortunately we feel just short in the end.”
