MATT Pearce made it a full set of Essex Winter titles by winning both the singles and mixed doubles finals.

The 24-year-old from Thorpe Bay won the singles tournament for the third time in his career before teaming up with his fiancé Emily Watts to win the mixed doubles.

And, with Pearce having previously won the men’s doubles on two occasions, he was thrilled to have clinched every possible title at the championships.

“It’s very pleasing because it means I have won all three of the titles I can compete in at this stage,” said Pearce.

“That’s it until I get to the age of 35 when I can start to compete in those age-groups as well.”

Pearce won three rounds in the singles before advancing to the final where he beat Stephen Russell 6-2, 6-2 at the Redbridge Leisure Centre, He then followed that up by winning the mixed doubles 6-2, 6-3.

And he thoroughly enjoys playing alongside his other half.

“Playing with Emily works well as we obviously get on and the more we’ve played mixed doubles together then the better we’ve started to work as a pair,” said Pearce.

“You need that if you’re going to do well in doubles and we also encourage each other when we’re out there.

“I believe that is now our sixth title as a pairing and hopefully we can have a few more to come.”
