SOUTHEND Saxons will be hoping to hit the right notes on and off the pitch this weekend.

For, after their crunch clash with Bishop’s Stortford tomorrow, popular local band The FiftyFourPlates will be playing a charity gig in their clubhouse.

And, by that stage, Saxons’ director of rugby Chris Green hopes to be celebrating a vital victory.

“I’m a big fan of the band and there will be no better way to celebrate a win than to have them playing,” said Green.

“They’re a big, successful local band and we’re pleased to have them down at the club.”

TheFiftyFourPlates will also be using the gig to launch a charity single they are releasing next month to raise funds and awareness for Tracy Ralph who had to have her legs and fingers amputated after contracting meningitis shortly after Christmas.

“We’re really excited to come down and play here and we’re doing all for Team TC,” said the band’s Nathan Abbott.

“I’ve been friends with her husband since we were about four and she’s doing really well now.

“She’s starting to walk a little bit but she still needs a lot of help so we want to keep the awareness up and try and help her anyway we can.

“We will be releasing the single in the first half of May and hopefully that will get some attention for what is a great cause.”

Tomorrow’s gig gets underway at 6.30pm.
