Billericay Town 3-3 Tonbridge Angels

From New Lodge

Ryman Premier League

A REMARKABLE ending at New Lodge saw Billericay Town score three times in six minutes to salvage a draw against Tonbridge Angels.

The game was made more extraordinary as Angels missed a 94th minute penalty, which could have undone all of Craig Edwards’ men work.

Town had already played out one extraordinary game this week, having come from 3-2 down to score two last minute strikes against Margate on Tuesday.

And it looked as though they were destined to lose against Angels, who will end the season midway up the bottom half.

Mitchell Pinnock, a former Concord Rangers and East Thurrock United man made his mark early on, as he opened the scoring midway through the second half.

Neat work from Charlie Webster down the right channel saw the ball fed inside to Pinnock and he made no mistake with a powerful drive.

The second goal didn’t come until after an hour and it was another tremendous assist from Webster.

The winger drove down the flank and Nathan Elder rose like a salmon to head home.

And it went from bad to worse for Town when, six minutes from time, substitute Dee Okojie worked space and ran through to score past Joe Wright.

That looked as though that would be that but Town hit back 60 seconds later.

Ricky Sappleton was felled in the box and Richard Halle, restored to the starting line-up after missing a spell with pneumonia, stepped up to strike home from the penalty spot.

With 88 minutes on the clock it was 3-2. A header into the danger zone by Cyrus Mahler was fed into Rowan Liburd’s path by Sappleton and he turned to shoot into the corner.

A mad finish was ensured and Town did grab their equaliser. A ball into the box was played into Shameek Farrell and the youngster saw his effort saved before crashing home the rebound.

But that was not the end of the drama, as Angels were awarded a penalty in the dying seconds of injury-time.

But Pinnock was unable to double his own tally as Joe Wright threw himself to one side to hand Town a point.
