ADAM Barrett believes a feel good factor has returned to Southend United and wants to see Roots Hall rocking for tomorrow’s huge match with Luton Town.

The popular centre-back has helped the Shrimpers work their way back into contention for automatic promotion with six successive victories.

But, with Blues now locked level on 81 points with third placed Wycombe Wanderers with just two games to go, Barrett is keen to keep the good run going.

And the 35-year-old has urged the fans to play their part in what could be his final home game for the club.

“There’s a fantastic atmosphere at Roots Hall when it’s full and we want that again tomorrow for what is going to be a fantastic game to be a part of,” said Barrett.

“I think there’s a real good factor coming back to the club and there’s that buzz around the place again now too.

“When I was at the club before everyone was right behind us and it’s getting like that again.

“When I first came back here after Christmas it didn’t really feel like that if I’m being honest.

“But you saw the scenes after the Bury game on Tuesday night and there’s a real togetherness through the club and through to the supporters now too.

“It’s great to see and I’m looking forward to tomorrow too as I’m going to take it like it could be my last ever game at Roots Hall.”

The Benfleet based Barrett, who grew up supporting Blues, made 289 appearances during his first spell at the club which included two promotions.

However, he now wants it to make it a hat-trick of triumphs, which makes beating Luton incredibly important this weekend.

“We want to win the game and take the promotion push to the last game of the season but Luton are fighting to get into the play-offs so it’s going to be difficult,” said Barrett.

“But we just have to keep on working as hard we have done and remain disciplined too.

“We don’t want to get caught up in the occasion but I’ll be telling the lads to make sure they enjoy these moments because these kinds of games are exactly what you play football for.

“And I firmly believe this group of players can achieve something special this year.”
