BLUES boss Phil Brown expects Morecambe to be fired up for tomorrow’s clash, despite them not having much to play for.

The Shrimps sit 12th in the League Two table, unable to win promotion or suffer relegation this weekend.

But Brown believes Jim Bentley’s side will still be desperate to come out on top at the Globe Arena.

“I would say there’s still plenty riding on it for Morecambe tomorrow,” said Brown, who has been named manager of the month for April.

“I know what Jim Bentley is like, I had a conversation with him towards the end of last season and he was all about budgets and point returns.

“He wasn’t talking about promotion or relegation he was talking about punching above his weight which he has done again this year.

“He’s done a fabulous job because his budget is probably in the bottom six but his team are always fighting for every three points and we expect that from them again tomorrow.”

Morecambe have been beaten nine times in 22 outings at home so far this season.

But Brown is wary of the threat the Shrimps possess in attack.

“Their front four is excellent and the key to it all is Kevin Ellison on the left wing for them,” said the 55-year-old.

“He’s a fighter and you never really want to play against him either.

“But he’s their leading scorer and leads their assists too so we know he will be a threat.”

However, Brown remains confident of coming out on top and feels his team are well equipped to deal with the pressure.

“Everyone is relaxed but we obviously know this is a big game,” said the Shrimpers chief.

“We spoke to the players at the start of the week about how best to approach the game and how it’s no different to the previous seven or eight.

“The form and momentum we have is first class and these boys have earned the right to what is a cup final now.

“Win it and we win automatic promotion which would just be a fantastic achievement.”
