BARRY Corr has urged Southend United to learn from their Morecambe misery when they host Stevenage in their play-off semi-final second leg on Thursday.

Corr’s goal in Sunday night’s 1-1 draw at Broadhall Way means a win will take the Shrimpers through to Wembley.

But the striker believes Blues must remain patient in their pursuit of victory.

“When we went to Morecambe on the final day needing three points to get automatic promotion I think we were too eager to win the game,” said Corr.

“We need to learn from that when we play again on Thursday and we need to play the game not the occasion.

“It will be difficult but we will certainly be up for it and we owe it to the fans, who were brilliant again here, to get a result and go through to Wembley.”

Corr brought the Shrimpers back level with a deflected close range header from Stephen McLaughlin’s right wing corner, nine minutes after Stevenage had taken the lead through Dean Parrett.

And the Irishman was thrilled to see the ball hit the back of the net.

“It was a big relief to score because we had missed a few chances and were frustrated to go behind,” said Corr.

“There’s not a lot you can do when a player puts one in the top corner from 30 yards like that but to come back like we did shows good character.

“It was a corner routine we had also worked on in training so it was also really good to see it pay off and it sets it up nicely for the second leg now.”

Blues are likely to head into the showdown as slight favourites with the game being played at Roots Hall.

But Corr does not feel that is the case.

“I don’t think we have an advantage at all because Stevenage will be confident of winning too,” said the 30-year-old.

“We’re glad we’re not playing catch up like we have done before in the play-offs but it’s still in the balance.

“It will be competitive and tough like it always is against Stevenage so we will need to match that if we are to come out on top.

“But we would’ve taken a draw here before kick-off and we’re still in with a chance of going through.”
