PETER Taylor believes it is impossible to predict who will win Saturday’s play-off final between his two former sides.

Taylor has been in charge of both Southend United and Wycombe Wanderers during his managerial career.

And he believes their match on Saturday will be extremely close.

“I think this is a game which is pretty much impossible to predict because of how closely matched they are,” said the Rochford-born Taylor.

“The two teams ended the league season on exactly the same number of points which proves that so I’m really going to have to sit on the fence when it comes to predicting who might win because I don’t know!”

Taylor, who lives in Benfleet, also lined up for Blues as a player and is delighted to have seen them make it through to Wembley.

The 62-year-old will be tuning in to watch the match on television.

And he feels Shrimpers striker Barry Corr could have a huge part to play in the game.

“I always see Barry as the main threat for Southend so I’m sure that will be the case again on Saturday because he’s a good player at this level,” said Taylor, who managed England at under-21 and senior level.

“I know he missed the penalty against Stevenage but he’s a good player and will cause them problems.”

But Taylor also believes Wycombe will pose a threat, with Paul Hayes and Fred Onyedinma the men to keep an eye on.

“Wycombe score a lot of goals and I think only Burton scored more than them in the league season,” said Taylor.

“Paul Hayes is a big threat and so is the boy they have on loan (Onyedinma) who they’ve pushed up front.

“They’re both quite lively so this has the makings of a really good game and whoever wins it will definitely have deserved promotion.”
