SOUTHEND United centre-back Adam Thompson insists he is buzzing for Saturday’s play-off final with Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley, despite being ruled out with a shoulder injury.

Thompson suffered a dislocated shoulder against Mansfield Town at the start of April which is expected to keep him sidelined for six months.

But the 22-year-old defender still feels part of Saturday’s showdown and is desperate for the Shrimpers to come out on top.

“We’re a really tight group here so I’m buzzing for the game and for the lads who will be playing,” said Thompson.

“I’ve played nearly 30 games this season so I feel as though I’ve played my part.

“It’s certainly been a real squad effort for us to get this far and now we want to finish it off.”

However, Thompson – who had a short loan spell with Wycombe back in 2012 – knows the Chairboys will be tough to see off.

And he was full of praise for the season Gareth Ainsworth’s side have enjoyed.

“Fair play to Wycombe because I think they’ve been quality all season,” said Thompson.

“I think people kept waiting for them to crumble and fall down the table but they never did.

“They had one or two bad results which saw them drop out of the top three but they’ve reacted well to that disappointment, just like we did after losing at Morecambe so I think it has the makings of a good final.”

Thompson will be roaring on the Shrimpers from the sidelines as they bid to secure a return to League One.

And he could well be doing so having had his injured arm removed from its sling. “Hopefully my sling will be gone by the weekend and I can kick on from there,” said Thompson.

“I know I was originally told I was going to be out for six months but I’ll be in every day during the summer to try and cut that down for four.

“I want to show the manager that I’m not a waste of a player for next year and that I want to build and improve on this season I’ve just had.”
