SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Daniel Bentley wants to complete his revenge mission with victory against Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.

The Shrimpers shot-stopper conceded four goals against both Stevenage and Wycombe during rare off days in an otherwise excellent League Two season.

And the 21-year-old, who was voted the club’s player of the year, now wants to beat them both to help Blues get back into League One.

“I was really hurt by the defeats to Stevenage and Wycombe and conceding four goals both times was tough to take so hopefully we can get our own back now,” said Bentley.

“We beat Stevenage in the semi-final and now we face Wycombe in the final so it’s funny the way it’s worked out.

“Hopefully we can come out on top because winning at Wembley to get promoted with my hometown club would be a dream come true.

“But Wycombe are a very strong side so we know we’re in for a tough test and we will have to defend much better against them than we did earlier on in the season.”

However, Blues have been defensively solid for most of the campaign with Bentley in fine form between the sticks.

The former Bromfords School pupil broke two club records for clean sheets during the campaign and went six months without conceding a goal at Roots Hall.

But he now wants to finish it all off with a more memorable afternoon than his last visit to Wembley with the Shrimpers when he was on the bench for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final against Crewe Alexandra back in 2013.

“If I’m honest that day at Wembley felt like a huge anti climax,” said Bentley.

“I enjoyed the experience but while I didn’t expect to play it was still disappointing to be on the bench.

“It was even more disappointing to lose the game but hopefully it will be different this time, especially as I’ve spent a fortune getting all my friends and family tickets!”
