STUART French was jumping joy after leaping to catch Michael Timlin’s skull-cap following Southend United’s dramatic play-off success against Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley.

Timlin had been forced to wear the headgear following a sickening clash of heads in the first leg of the play-off semi-final at Stevenage.

But the cap is now in possession of Stuart who was able to out-jump his older brother Steve to catch it.

“The team were celebrating in front of us when Timlin threw his cap up into the air and the wind just suddenly blew it into my direction,” said Stuart, 29.

“I’m not quite sure how I was able to jump above my brother to get it because he’s a bit taller than me but it was certainly a great ending to the day.”

However, Stuart is not planning on keeping the skull-cap.

And he is instead looking to auction it off for charity.

“Although it was brilliant to get the skull-cap I don’t really have any need for it so I thought it would be a nice gesture if I auctioned it off for charity,” said Stuart, who lives in Benfleet.

“I will be talking to the club and maybe the Shrimpers Trust as well to see if there is a particularly charity the club work closely with but I just felt as though that would be the best thing to do with it.”
