CANVEY Island have completed the double signing of Billericay Town centre-backs Steve Sheehan and Richard Halle.

Halle, who was named Billericay Town’s captain last summer, and Sheehan, who joined Town from East Thurrock United last term, have agreed to link up with Danny Heale having both played in the yellow and blue of Canvey before.

Halle has made more than 100 appearances for the Gulls towards the end of the 2006/07 Ryman Division One North season before leaving at the end of the campaign to sign for newly promoted AFC Hornchurch.

He re-joined midway through the following season, helping the club win promotion to the Ryman Premier League via the play-offs.

Richard was a regular in the side for the following two seasons before leaving to go travelling before returning to the UK to play for Concord Rangers and most recently Billericay.

In total he has scored 11 goals for Canvey, a total he surpassed last season alone for Billericay.

Sheehan last played for the club during the 2011/12 season alongside John Easterford in central defence.

He made 40 starts, scoring twice in between spells at Rookery Hill with East Thurrock.

“Richard and Steve are two excellent signings for us and demonstrate our intentions for what we are trying to build,” said Heale.

“They bring with them a wealth of experience and are both natural leaders which is exactly what we need to push on this season.

“Having both played here before they know exactly what the club is all about and they'll both add something to the dressing room in terms of their personalities.”
