JACK Daly is back with Southend Saxons for the forthcoming National Two South season.

The 21-year-old scrum half lined up for Southend during a six-month spell in the second half of the 2012/13 season.

But he is thrilled to be back at Warners Bridge.

“I chatted to Chris Green (director of rugby) towards the end of last season and I felt at this time in my playing career it would benefit me coming back to Southend to play regular rugby,” said Daly.

“I’m also an Essex boy and I enjoy playing with the boys at Southend.

“I feel the club is going in the right direction and with my style of play and our big forward pack, along with some dangerous outside backs, I feel we are going to have a good season.

“My dad also played and captained Southend, so I’m glad to be back.”

Daly, who is from Upminster, has previously lined up for Wasps, Cambridge and Old Albanians and has also represented England Counties.

The youngster also spent time playing in New Zealand prior to his first spell with Southend back in 2013 which he believes helped to improve him as a player.

“I had been away for six months when I came to Southend when I was 18 for a season,” recalled Daly.

“I enjoyed my time at the club and got a good taste of national league rugby.

“I also learnt a lot from Chris Green and Dick Best who was there at the time and I’m pleased to be back now.”

Southend started with five different scrum halves during their 30 games last season and will be bidding to finish much higher next time around after only just avoiding relegation in the last game of the previous campaign.
