SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Paul Smith has signed a new one year deal with the Shrimpers.
The contract will see the 35-year-old combine playing with coaching.
And the experienced shot-stopper is pleased to be staying with the Shrimpers.
“The club have been very welcoming to me for the last three years and the manager was keen to get me on board for next season which was really pleasing too,” said Smith.
“Coaching has been something I've been doing unofficially at the club for a little while now.
“I've been doing it on the training pitch and on matchdays as well, alongside Terry Mason.
“It's been a good transition and is another step for me to take on the extra responsibilities. “
Smith joined Blues in August 2012 and has made 47 appearances for the club.
