WILL Stevens brought his car home safely in front of his home crowd at the British Grand Prix yesterday.

The 24-year-old, who was born in Rochford, finished 13th in his Manor car at Silverstone, his best-placed Formula One finish of his career.

He finished a place behind his team-mate Roberto Mehri as Manor also had their best Grand Prix to date.

A team spokesman said: “A good two-car finish in front of a home crowd. I’m pleased we were able to shine a little in today’s race.”

Lewis Hamilton won the race to strengthen his grip on the World Championship standings.

He now leads team-mate Nico Rosberg by 17 points ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
