DUTCH international Krijn Twight has joined Southend Saxons.

The 20-year-old, who can play at number eight, flanker or lock, was lining up for Clermont under-22 side in France last season.

But he has now opted to move to Warners Bridge.

“I had been in France for two years but I’ve decided to come to England and get some time here,” said Twight, explaining his decision to come to Southend.

“It was quite hard for me in France because I went there not being able to speak any French.

“I learnt it a bit but when the option of coming to Southend came up I decided to go for it.

“It’s a new adventure for me and one I’m looking forward to.”

Twight trained with his team-mates for the first time last week and is keen to help Southend enjoy a more successful season.

Last time around, Saxons only just avoided relegation on the final day of the campaign.

But Twight has his sights set far higher for the side.

“I hope I can get a lot of game time and improve myself as a player during what we want to be a good season,” said the Dutchman.

“I want to be there for the team and want us to do well and be high up the league.”

Such an achievement would also enable Twight to keep his place in the national team after he broke into the senior squad last season.

“I made my debut for the national team last season which was a big thing for me, “said Twight. “In the under-18s, with the national team, we won the European B Championships and that was very good.

“The year after in the under-19s we came fifth in the higher group so that was good too so hopefully I can play more now.
