SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is keen to mark Roots Hall’s 60th anniversary in style when the Shrimpers host Swindon Town tomorrow.

Six decades on from welcoming Norwich City back to their current ground, Blues will be taking on the Robins.

And Brown is keen to put on a good show to secure his side’s first success of the season.

“It’s a nice anniversary to enjoy and the best way to mark it is with a good performance and result,” said the Shrimpers boss.

“That’s what we’re going to be trying to do and I think it will be a good game because Swindon also look to play the game in the right way.”

The Robins were beaten 4-0 by Preston North End in the League One play-off final last season.

But Brown fully expects Mark Cooper’s men to be pushing for promotion again this term.

“The reports we’ve had back on Swindon have been very positive and so are all the statistics we have on them too,” said the 56-year-old.

“The stats show Swindon are the top passers in the league and have spent more time on the ball than any other team which indicates the style of their play.

“They’ve played with a few different systems but we will have to be right on our game to beat them and that’s the challenge facing us now.”

Brown must also decide whether or not to tinker with his team or the tactics.

But he is not yet sure if striker Noel Hunt will be available to face the Robins.

“We want to get Noel back out there and it’s important we do but we will be taking another late decision on his availability,” said Brown.

“Cian Bolger is definitely out with his shoulder injury but other than that there are no other problems at the moment.”
