SOUTHEND United are closing in on a move for Burnley full-back Luke O’Neill.
Despite reports to the contrary, the deal has yet to be completed.
And the Echo understands the transfer has not yet been cleared by the Football League.
Blues boss Phil Brown hopes the move will be sealed tomorrow morning in time for O’Neill to figure in the matchday squad against Swindon Town.
The Shrimpers currently have just four fit defenders after Cian Bolger was forced off with a shoulder problem during Wednesday night’s 0-0 draw at Doncaster Rovers.
O’Neill, who had a short loan spell with Southend in January 2014, has therefore been brought back to Roots Hall.
The deal is believed to have been done a loan signing in order for him to be available for tomorrow’s clash with Swindon Town but it is understood there are moves already in place for the transfer to become permanent.
