What happened on Saturday? An injury-time winner condemned Concord Rangers to their fourth defeat on the bounce against Bishop’s Stortford.

A hat-trick from Elliott Buchanan did the damage, with goals from Joe Gardner and Steve King not enough for the visitors.

Gardner had handed the away side the advantage with only six minutes on the clock but Buchanan got his first of the afternoon after half-an hour.

Three minutes into the second-period Concord were behind, as Buchanan did the job from the penalty spot.

Concord got the goal their play deserved when skipper Steve King got his head on the end of a terrific Ben Greenhalgh cross to make it 2-2.

The Beach Boys continued to press but were made to pay in the final minute when another spot kick was awarded to the frustration of the visitors, and Buchanan did the rest.

The preview: Concord return to the Aspect Arena hoping to erase the memory of their last two home games.

Defeats to Dartford (3-2) and Hemel Hempstead Town (3-0) have put extra emphasis on this match against newly promoted Margate.

Gate came up through the play-offs last season, and are fancied to put on a good show this term as well. However they remain near the foot of the table after struggling to break sides down. And, following defeat to Dartford on Saturday they have now failed to score in three of their last four games.

They will be looking for former Grays Athletic striker Freddie Ladapo to rectify that this afternoon.

What he said: Beach Boys assistant manager Jody Brown said: “We were really unfortunate against Bishops’ Stortford. We responded well to a run of defeats and they are a team who have come on a lot this summer, yet we still deserved something from the game.

“We are really looking forward to this game as it gives us a chance to get back on the pitch and put things right as soon as possible.

“Margate have struggled this season and that has surprised a lot of people. They are very well resourced but they have one of the most experienced managers in the division in Terry Brown.

“The boys responded admirably on Saturday to the 3-0 defeat to Hemel Hempstead Town and today’s match will be another chance to get back to winning ways.”
