SOUTHEND United winger Kevan Hurst is a doubt for this weekend’s clash with Shrewsbury Town after picking up a knee injury in training.

Hurst had just returned from a hamstring problem when he suffered another setback.

And Shrimpers boss Phil Brown is unsure whether the 30-year-old will be fit enough to face the Shrews at Roots Hall.

“Kevan limped out of training earlier on in the week and is now very doubtful for Saturday’s game with Shrewsbury after it turned out he injured his medial ligaments,” said Brown.

“He’s going to have the injury scanned and we will know more about it then but hopefully it won’t be too bad.”

And Brown will also be tracking Ben Coker’s fitness after the left-back missed training at the start of the week with a hamstring problem.

“Ben Coker has a tight hamstring and has yet to train this week,” said the Shrimpers chief.

“Hopefully he will be back out there today but he’s one we are going to have to keep an eye on.

Adam Barrett also missed training at the start of the week but he’s back out there now and I’m confident he will be fine for the weekend.
