THE PREVIEW: After Rovers disappointing showing in the FA Cup last month, manager Dan Trenkel will want a much better showing in the FA Trophy.

However, they are in for a tough test against the side sitting second in the Southern Division One Central league.

Royston have won three of their five home games to date and are the joint top scorers at the equivalent tier in the south, although they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Rovers’ Ryman One North rivals Thurrock.

Rovers will be buoyed by their draw against Brightlingsea last time out, although they have only won once in the past five weeks.

The winner will pocket £2,500.

WHAT HE SAYS: Rovers boss Dan Trenkel said: “I have told the players they owe the club a performance after what happened in the FA Cup.

“Royston will be one of the toughest teams we have played this season, especially on their own patch. They have scored a lot of goals and we will need to show the same defensive solidity that we showed against Brightlingsea.

“Financially a cup run is important and it does give the players a boost but it won’t define our season.”

FORM GUIDE: DLLLW

TEAM NEWS: Lewis Sparrow is unavailable (work) and Eljay Worrell is away, but Rovers have a fully fit squad to choose from, with Billy Radley, Bradley Vaughan and Ellis Sands back in contention.

Rovers have also signed striker Jake Gordon, from Brightlingsea Regent. Gordon played against Rovers last Saturday.

Trenkel added: “His movement against us last Saturday was fantastic and I think he'll score a lot of goals for us.

“It means I’ve now got a fit 20 man squad, so four will miss out each week. In Jake, Jay Nash, Billy Johnson and Jacob Cleaver we have four strikers who are competing for one or two spots and someone needs to nail that spot down.”
